New Website for FOV and Webinar!

New Website for FOV and Webinar!

Vitrectomy for the removal of Floaters, Randall Wong, M.D.I have started a separate website for patients suffering from floaters and have scheduled two webinars to discuss the treatment of floaters.

There are many patients who have “floaters” which decrease their vision.  “FOV” means “Floater Only Vitrectomy” where a vitrectomy is performed to remove the vitreous, and hence, the disturbing floaters contained within.

Webinars:  FAQ’s about FOV

I have selected two separate dates to host the webinars and to discuss the more common questions and concerns regarding the treatment of floaters.  The information should be similar and have been scheduled at different times of the day and week to allow for as many time zones as possible.

You can register for either one or both.  They are free!  Just click to register.

“FAQ’s About FOV” (Webinar)

New Website:  VitrectomyforFloaters.com

I started a new website for patients suffering from floaters.

I do not want to bias this site (retinaeyedoctor.com) with information and discussion about floaters and felt that it was time to start a separate site.  Also, there are numerous forums and chat rooms for patients suffering from floaters.

I wanted to start a place where constructive and accurate information about floaters and their treatment could be discussed.  I’ve never felt comfortable “invading” other sites, so I started my own website.

What Does this Mean?

I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved on this site, RetinaEyeDoctor.com.  I’d like to duplicate this type of community on VitrectomyforFloaters.com as I understand the needs of the two communities will be different.

The website is technically up and running, but will require a bit more effort to get some quality content so it may stand on its own.

If you are interested in signing up for the webinars, they are free.  The webinars will present the same content and I expect the Q & A sessions to be similar.

See you there and on the new site!

    Dear Dr. Wong,

Thank you for these webinars. Just found out about them today and listened to both of them. Very informative.
I am 67 and have had these really disturbing floaters in both eyes for the last 3 years. Spent a lot of $ trying to have them zapped w lasers in southern cal several times on both eyes. Last time which was about a year ago , it made them worse so I have been tolerating ever since feeling very hopeless and frustrated. . I am very healthy otherwise and take no medications .
Just as you said I have seen 3 retina specialists over these last 3 years and none recommend the vitrectomy.
But I am not one to take the traditional path and just accept it if there are other sensible options. I am a very young spirit and feel like my life has really been hampered by these . They are in both eyes, and go up and down and in reverse with each other and side to side constantly with a lot of blur , shadows and glare. Would love to come to see you in the very near future. Thank you again for your kindness and care to us sufferers .
    Sincerely, Inez Canvasser

    Dr. Wong,

Do you use gas or saline to replace the vitreous?

I see white blood cells running through the caprllaries as well…

    Would a vitrectormy induce that?

Would you know after examing my eyes if I had a PVD or an infection with white blood cells that caused floaters?

I had PRK done three years ago. I’ve noitced an increase of these floaters last Feb 13 and I have been seen my opthamologist serveral times. He said my eyes are healthy…

I see shadows and after images lasting a few more seconds that my normal time.

I was left dry eye syndrome after the PRK as well.

Would you be able conduct this procedure still?

    Thank You,
    v/r
    Mani

    Hi Dr. Wong,

It’s been almost 2 years since my FOV and I can’t tell you how happy I still am at the results: perfectly clear vision in my right eye! Before coming to see you, I was in a state of despair, having endured a difficult year due to the explosion of floaters in my right eye – it had gotten so bad that I had stopped reading altogether because of the frustration of having to constantly ‘wiggle’ my eyes around to get the floaters out of the way for just a few seconds. I even wore glasses with one lens covered up when I was working on my computer because it was so difficult and frustrating to see out of my right eye.

My regular eye doctor made things worse: despite acknowledging the unusually high number of floaters, he casually and callously told me “Don’t worry about it, you’ll get used to it”. Needless to say, I never went back to see him again. I also spent thousands of dollars on several sessions of YAG laser treatments (I went to see doctors in VA and CA) and unfortunately those didn’t work for me – the treatments (5 total) left me with a large, hazy cloud and the remaining floaters gathered directly in the center of my field of vision.

I didn’t have much hope that anyone would be able to help me, until I came to see you Dr. Wong. For the first time since my ordeal had begun, it felt like I finally had someone who was truly ‘in my corner’ and I can’t thank you enough for that. Furthermore, your online accessibility was something I had never experienced with a doctor before – the fact that I could ask questions and that you would actually answer them promptly (!!) made me wonder: “Why aren’t all doctors this accessible and this responsive?”.

Fortunately for me, my story has a very happy ending: the operation was a great success – better than what I would have hoped for – and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. So, thank you very, very much. (By the way, I will probably come see you again in the next few weeks/months because the floaters in my left eye have gotten worse.)

    Best wishes,

    Gerard Etienne

      Gerard,

Thank you so much for the update! I am very, very happy for you and look forward to seeing you soon.

With your permission, I re-posted this as a testimonial on VitrectomyForFloaters.com. I think this will allay many concerns.

      All the best,

      r
